Walking Around the World in a Diplomatic Life

Holiday vacations or living in different places around the world are two things I have thoroughly enjoyed and continue to savor. 

In our diplomatic life, I had unforgettable experiences living in nine countries spanning 4 continents.

Sometimes people ask me, what was my favorite place?  That is a really difficult question to answer.  Each country is unique and special in its own way. 

In my diplomatic life, each time I arrived in a new country, I felt as if I was standing in front of a blank canvas.  Over time this canvas began to fill with brush strokes of  happiness, disappointments, anecdotes, friendships and an infinite string of experiences.  At the end, when the canvas is completed into a work of art, it is time to leave and head to a new destination and another adventure. 

I truly treasure all of these memories, as if they were beautiful works of art hanging on the walls of my home.  Traveling and living abroad gives you a precious perspective on life, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of the planet earth and its wonderful inhabitants.
